Special Reserve Bourbon was created by the Stitzel-Weller Distilling company. It is one of the three bottle expressions that is still released on an ongoing basis. The bourbon was named after William Larue Weller, the man credited for using wheat in straight bourbon.
Production & Maturation
A unique mash bill is cooked, fermented, and distilled at the Buffalo Trace distillery. This masterpiece is distilled in large column stills utilizing modern bourbon-making techniques. It is aged in new charred oak barrels for between 4-7 years to obtain its beautiful; burnt orange color.
Mash Bill
Corn is the prime grain for Weller Special Reserve, but rather than rye; the bourbon whisky features wheat as the secondary grain. The exact ratio of mash bill is not disclosed; however, the smoothness the spirit has is a result of substituting the scenery grain.
